Sensor Cable / Actuator Cable

Product Overview

This sensor and actuator cable is a custom molded M8 or M12 cable assembly that connects proximity switches, pressure transducers, encoders and valves to PLCs, I/O modules and control cabinets.

Existing builds cover the M8 6-pin right-angle male to female cable in 6 x 26 AWG PVC (M8-6P-MF-R-M), the M12 8-pin A-code male to M12 8-pin male cable (M12-M8-8P-MM-S-M) and the M12 4-pin sensor male to female cable (M12-4P-MF-S-M).

Connector coding, pin count, cable length and jacket material are fixed on the drawing before production. Cactus Electronics has produced molded cable assemblies since 2009, to IPC/WHMA-A-620, with 100 % electrical testing before shipment.

Material & Rating

  • Connector — M8 and M12 circular connectors, A, B or D coded, 3 to 8 pin, straight or right-angle, plug or socket
  • Contacts — brass, gold-plated, crimped or soldered, with coupling nut in brass or stainless steel
  • Conductor — stranded copper 26–20 AWG, PVC, PUR or XLPE insulation
  • Jacket and overmold — PVC or PUR, black or yellow, moulded body with strain relief
  • Shielding — optional braided shield with drain wire for encoder and analogue signals
  • Voltage — rated per connector and cable specification - stated on each drawing
  • Ingress protection — mated M8 and M12 pairs sealed per drawing, typically IP67; verified on the sample

Certification

Cactus Electronics is certified to ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and UL and manufactures to the IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standard. Raw materials comply with RoHS. Every assembly passes 100 % electrical testing - continuity, insulation resistance and withstand voltage - before packing, and the QC-to-production personnel ratio is 1:3.

Application

Molded sensor and actuator cables are used on machines where the connection has to survive vibration, coolant and wash-down.

  • Proximity and photoelectric sensor wiring
  • Pressure, temperature and flow transducer leads
  • Valve and actuator solenoid connections
  • Encoder and servo feedback cables
  • Conveyor, packaging and assembly machinery
  • Food and beverage wash-down installations

Custom Options

  • Connector: M8 or M12, 3 to 8 pin, A, B or D coding, straight or right-angle
  • Cable length from 0.3 m, conductor count and gauge, PVC or PUR jacket
  • Shielded version for encoder and analogue signals, with drain wire to the coupling nut
  • LED indicator version, stainless steel coupling nut, or halogen-free jacket
  • Samples in 3–7 working days; MOQ confirmed per project
  • Customer carton marking and DDP delivery on request

FAQ

What is the operating temperature rating of this harness?

Standard PVC-insulated assemblies are rated to 80 °C; XLPE or TPE insulation raises the rating to 105 °C. Standard builds use a PVC jacket; cables for welding cells, ovens or wash-down areas are quoted with PUR or XLPE and a higher temperature class. The exact operating range for a part number is stated on its drawing and confirmed in the sample test report.

Is this overmolded harness waterproof?

Molded M8 and M12 connectors seal the mated pair, so the assembly is protected against water, oil and coolant; the specified level is confirmed on the sample. The ingress protection level (typically IP67 for a mated pair) is specified on the drawing and verified during sample validation. Non-overmolded assemblies can be supplied with heat-shrink or grommet sealing instead.

Can I customize the pinout and connector type?

Yes. Pinout, connector series and gender, cable length, wire gauge, jacket colour and overmold shape are all customer-defined. Pin count, coding, gender, cable length and conductor gauge are all defined by the sensor and PLC interface you use. Send a drawing, a sample, or a pinout table and we return a 2D/3D drawing prepared to IPC/WHMA-A-620 for approval before tooling.

What is your MOQ for custom cable?

MOQ is confirmed per project and depends on harness complexity, connector cost and tooling. Prototype and pilot batches are accepted before mass production, so a new programme can start with sample quantities. Samples are produced in 3–7 working days and mass production runs 20–30 days after approval.

What testing standards do you apply for harness?

Production follows IPC/WHMA-A-620. Every assembly is 100 % electrically tested for continuity, insulation resistance and withstand voltage; the in-house lab adds temperature and humidity cycling, salt spray, connector insertion and withdrawal force, and cable bending tests. Inspection records are kept in the ERP system.
